Preventing Split Nails

No one likes split or cracked nails unless it's the cracked nail polish look. Here are some ways to prevent your nails from splitting.

Step 1
Keep your nails dry. Don't leave them soaking in water for a long period of time. The water will weaken the outer layer of your nail. Also try not to use nail polish remover or other chemicals on your nails too often because they will also weaken your nails. If you wash dishes or have your hands in water for a long period of time wear gloves they will help keep your nails dry and protect your hands also.

Step 2
Practice good nail hygiene! Keep your nails neatly trimmed and clean. You can rub a moisturizing nail lotion to keep them moisturized. Let the lotion sink into the nail before painting your nails. Before cutting your nails let them soak in warm water for a little bit to soften them up, then you can trim your nails. If you cut your nails when dry they might crack or split because the nail layers are hard.

Step 3
Avoid harsh nail products. Try limiting the amount of manicures you get. If you constantly get Acrylic nails try to limit it to once a month so your natural nails can breath and grow properly without any objects or chemicals on them. If you need to use nail polish remover try using nail polish removers that don't contain acetone.

Step 4
Repair split finger nails quickly. You can repair split finger nails with nail glue or clear nail polish. I like using BARRIELLE Nail Rebuilding Protein nail polish because it helps bond and strengthen weak nails.
